P&I Work
By admin
Nouri Alwan Marine Surveyor and Consultancy has extensive, hands-on experience across all aspects of P&I work, from on-site emergency attendance to detailed written correspondence and expert technical support throughout the life of a claim. When an incident occurs, whether at berth, at anchorage, or at sea, the speed and quality of the initial response can determine the ultimate cost and outcome of a claim. NAMSC operates on a 24-hour, seven-day-a-week basis, and our surveyors can be deployed rapidly to any port within our operational area to attend casualties, gather evidence, and protect the interests of P&I club members and their underwriters.
Protection and Indemnity insurance covers shipowners and charterers against a broad range of third-party liabilities arising from the operation of their vessels. These include cargo damage and shortage, crew illness and injury, collision and contact damage, pollution incidents, port and terminal damage, wreck removal, and a range of other exposures that fall outside the scope of hull and machinery policies. When any of these events occur, the P&I club correspondent plays a central role in coordinating the immediate response, appointing the right technical and legal resources, preserving evidence, and building the factual foundation that the club and its lawyers need to assess and manage the claim. NAMSC fulfils this correspondent function with the operational capability, local knowledge, and technical expertise that effective P&I support demands.
Cargo claims represent a significant proportion of P&I liability. When cargo is damaged, short-landed, or alleged to have been contaminated, NAMSC surveyors attend promptly to inspect and document the condition of the cargo, identify the likely cause and extent of any damage, and produce independent survey reports that address the key factual questions on which the claim will turn. Our surveyors are experienced in the full range of bulk, liquid, containerised, and project cargo types, and understand how to gather and preserve the physical evidence that supports a well-documented defence or settlement. Where cargo shortage is alleged, we can conduct or review draft surveys, tally records, and other quantity documentation to provide an independent assessment of the figures in dispute.
Crew welfare, medical assistance, and repatriation are among the most time-sensitive aspects of P&I work. When a seafarer is injured or becomes seriously ill on board, NAMSC can provide immediate on-the-ground coordination, liaising with local hospitals and medical facilities, arranging repatriation, and assisting with the documentation required by the club. Our familiarity with the medical infrastructure and regulatory environment in the UAE, Iraq, and the wider Gulf region enables us to act quickly and effectively in crew emergencies, minimising suffering and containing costs for the club and the shipowner.
Across all of our P&I services, NAMSC acts with complete impartiality and professional independence, in accordance with the instructions of the appointing club or principal. Our written reports and correspondence are structured to meet the documentation requirements of P&I arbitration, maritime law proceedings, and Letter of Undertaking negotiations. We maintain detailed records of all attendances, communications, and findings, providing clubs and their legal advisors with the organised, factually grounded case files they need to manage claims effectively from first notification through to final settlement.
