Marine Survey & Inspection

Comprehensive marine survey and inspection services delivered by a team of highly experienced specialists, serving shipowners, charterers, cargo interests, and insurers across global ports and terminals.

At Nouri Alwan Marine Surveyor and Consultancy (NAMSC), our marine survey and inspection capabilities span the full spectrum of commercial shipping operations. Each NAMSC surveyor brings a combination of seafaring experience and shore-based technical expertise to every assignment, enabling us to deliver detailed, accurate, and independently produced survey reports across all vessel types, cargo categories, and operational contexts. Our surveyors operate across the UAE, the wider Middle East, Iraq, and our extended associate network throughout the GCC and East Africa, providing rapid response and round-the-clock availability at all major ports in the regions we serve.

Cargo is the foundation of global trade, and the accurate assessment of its condition, quantity, and integrity is one of the most commercially critical functions in shipping. NAMSC conducts draft surveys in accordance with internationally standardised protocols, measuring vessel displacement before and after loading or discharge to determine the weight of cargo loaded or outturn, with full consideration of ballast changes, consumable corrections, trim and deformation factors, and the density of the water in which the vessel is floating. Our surveyors use certified instruments and documented procedures, producing draft survey reports that are accepted by cargo interests, shipowners, P&I clubs, and trade finance institutions as independent, authoritative quantity certificates.

Hatch cover integrity is critical to the safe carriage of bulk and dry cargoes, particularly on voyages across open ocean where weather exposure is unavoidable. NAMSC carries out ultrasonic hatch cover testing using calibrated ultrasonic leak detection equipment, which identifies any breaches in the watertight integrity of hatch covers without the need for physical water testing. Our surveyors inspect rubber seals, compression bars, drain channels, cleats, and coaming surfaces, and produce detailed reports with photographic records identifying any deficiencies and recommending remedial action before cargo is loaded. These inspections protect cargo owners from moisture damage claims and protect shipowners from liability arising from inadequately sealed holds.

Heavy lift and project cargo surveys require a specific combination of engineering knowledge, operational experience, and meticulous planning. NAMSC provides pre-loading assessments for out-of-gauge and heavy lift cargo, reviewing lifting plans, lashing and securing calculations, stowage arrangements, and stability data to ensure that cargo is loaded safely and in compliance with the requirements of the vessel, the port authority, and any applicable marine warranty requirements. Our surveyors supervise transportation and handling operations for heavy machinery and industrial equipment, providing continuous oversight from the point of lift through to final securing on board.

On/off-hire surveys and bunker surveys are fundamental to the charter relationship. NAMSC attends on-hire and off-hire condition surveys to document the state of the vessel at the commencement and conclusion of a charter period, providing a comparative record against which any damage, wear, or deterioration can be assessed. Bunker surveys are conducted simultaneously where required, measuring the quantity of fuel oil and other bunkers on board to verify delivery or redelivery figures. These surveys are conducted impartially, producing reports that are formatted to meet the requirements of charter party documentation and any subsequent arbitration or legal proceedings.
